Meet "Wod Up" team captain: Aaron Schulte
If you haven't already met Aaron, he's a 5:15am regular who always shows up with a smile on his face, ready to give it his all! It's been fun watching him progress over the past few months. He may not have a gymnastics background, but you wouldn't know that by his rope climbs, pull-ups and toes to bar! We're proud of you Aaron, keep up the hard work...it will definitely pay off.
How long have you been doing CrossFit and what did you do (physically, athletic background if any) before starting at BICF?
I just started doing CrossFit in November of 2017. As a kid I was your typical average athlete, nothing special but played a little bit of everything and ended up sticking with football throughout high school. When my kids were younger (translation, when I could keep up with them), I coached several of their youth sports teams and had a blast being part of their early athletic journeys. I’ve done a bit of weight lifting and also had a few running kicks in more recent years, but after joining the BICF team I haven’t felt like doing that old boring stuff on my own anymore.
What has been your biggest accomplishment since starting CrossFit?
It’s tough for me to name my biggest accomplishment since starting CrossFit because I’m feeling many benefits, but I bet if you asked my wife she might tell you I am much more pleasant to be around nowadays. I’m on a routine that works well for me, and I honestly feel like I’m happier and more productive in just about everything I do on a daily basis. I feel great, my mind and body are both changing in a positive way, and the 5:15am crew kicks my ass!
Why are you excited to participate in the 2018 BICF Intramural Open?
Being fairly new to CrossFit, I’m both nervous and excited for this event. When the clock ticks down from 10, then starts beeping at 3-2-1…no turning back, you are committed! I’m looking forward to grinding it out with everybody in the gym and challenging each other to dig deep. It feels great to accomplish something that you didn’t think was possible.
What would you tell someone who is on the fence about participating in the 2018 BICF Intramural Open?
Come join my team, if I can do it so can you!
Tell us something about you that most people don’t know
Marshawn Lynch tossed a signed bag of Skittles during the Super Bowl parade that hit me in the arm and landed at my feet. I let the kid in front of me pick them up because I was old, frozen stiff, and secretly a Cowboys fan in a sea of blue and green crazy Hawk fans. Also, I strum an extremely mediocre guitar.
