Eat more protein!
Most of us don't get enough protein in our daily diet. Did you know that you should be eating about 1g of protein per pound of lean body mass per day? For example, if you weight 150 pounds and have 20% body fat, your lean body mass weight is 120 which means 120g of protein per day. The best way to meet your protein requirements is to eat real food, and primarily lean meats. One of our family favorites is turkey meatloaf (see recipe below) served with cheesy cauliflower breadsticks (to get in those veggies). This recipe is nutritious and delicious!
Paleo meat loaf
1 teaspoon olive oil
2 slices bacon, chopped
1 medium red onion, chopped
1 green bell pepper, chopped
1 teaspoon crushed garlic
3/4 cup almond meal
1/2 cup coconut milk
1.5 pounds ground turkey, chicken or beef
1 and 1/4 cups chili sauce (we use Sriracha)
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium-high. Cook bacon, stirring, until almost crisp (about 4 minutes). Ad onion and bell pepper, season to taste with salt and pepper, and cook until vegetables are soft (about 3 minutes). Add garlic and cook 1 minute. Transfer mixture to a large bowl and add almond meal and coconut milk. Let cool.
Add raw ground meat and 2 tablespoons chili sauce to the bowl. Dive right in with those hands and mix it up! Transfer mixture to a 5"x9" loaf pan and smooth top. Spread remaining chili sauce over the top. Bake until meatloaf is cooked through, about 70 minutes. Let cool in pan 20 minutes before slicing. Enjoy!
