Meet "Cirque de Sore Legs" team captain: Maggie Fogel
To say we are excited about our first annual Intramural Open team competition is an understatement. This growing community of amazing humans makes me smile each and every day! This event is going to be so much fun and we can't wait to see all of the "firsts" that will be accomplished by each of you over the next 5 weeks. The entire BICF staff would also like to give a huge thank you to our four team captains, Maggie, Aaron, Kathy and Sarah. Since many of you may not have had the pleasure of getting to know them yet, we asked them each a few questions so they could share a bit about themselves. Read on to learn more about Maggie!
How long have you been doing CrossFit and what did you do (physically, athletic background if any) before starting at BICF?
I started in Brandi’s garage gym mid-July 2016. I was severely obese most of my life, completely nervous about going into any gym, and frankly not convinced that the workouts could scale to someone of my abilities. Now I’m preaching from the mountaintops!
What has been your biggest accomplishment since starting CrossFit?
Being able to shop for non plus sized clothes. Having muscles- real muscles I can see with my own eyes. Able to play with my kids for longer than 2 minutes without getting totally exhausted. Walking up or down stairs without having to rely on handrails. The list goes on and on and on...
Why are you excited to participate in the 2018 BICF Intramural Open?
Because 2017 was my first Open and I can’t wait to see how I do year over year! Last year the scaled versions were definitely on the cusp of what I could just do, and I am thrilled to see what kind of difference a year makes. I’m also excited to do the WODs with more than just Kenner looking on in Brandi’s garage ;-)
What would you tell someone who is on the fence about participating in the 2018 BICF Intramural Open?
Sign up and be on Team Maggie- CIRQUE DE SORE LEGS! It’s so rewarding to do a WOD knowing that so many other athletes are doing it worldwide at the same time, and then checking online to see where you rank. It’s humbling and motivating and so much fun!
Tell us something about you that most people don’t know..
I am completely inspired by all of the gym members. Even though I may exhibit bravado (or humor) I remain in awe of the levels of awesome I see in others every workout and it helps me realize that yes! I can do this, I can push through, I can give this a go. We all have our own “why”, and we all have our limiting factors, and watching everyone else motivates me to be my best self!
