Adapt & Overcome
San Diego Police Department Det. James “Chappie” Hunter has been with the force for 22 years. In 2013, he was involved in a motorcycle collision that left him a below-the-knee amputee. Dealing with the hardship was almost too much for Hunter to bear.
“It affected my family. It affected everything around me,” he says.
Then his prosthetist introduced him to a group of other amputees who lost numerous limbs while serving in Afghanistan.
“What in the hell do I have to complain about?” Hunter asked himself.
Motivated to overcome his injury, Hunter reclaimed his career and opened Alpine Ranch CrossFit in Alpine, California. Today, he inspires people to overcome whatever is challenging them in their lives.
