Why CrossFit for Teens?
As parents ourselves, we know it can be daunting to select physical activities in which to enroll your child. Sports, dance, martial arts? What about music lessons, school and homework? Kids have a lot going on these days and certainly have their own opinions about things as well.
After seven years of coaching adults and kids of all ages in CrossFit on a daily basis, and being on staff for CrossFit Kids, I can tell you there are many reasons it is a great discipline for your children. CrossFit provides a strong foundation of metabolic conditioning (cardio), gymnastics (controlling one's body through space and time) and weightlifting and throwing (controlling an external object or load). As a general physical preparedness program, CrossFit provides kids with a broader skill set which will carry over into other sports. It also helps them develop good fitness habits that will hopefully follow them for the rest of their lives.
Our Teen program will also help kids develop on an emotional level. In our program we work with kids on sportsmanship, leadership, teamwork, listening skills, self-discipline, work ethic, integrity and manners. These are all skills, though not physical, that will help kids become successful later in life. In addition, we see a noticeable difference in the confidence level of kids who have been doing CrossFit. As their bodies get fitter and their abilities expand, kids generally become more physically active and less self-conscious in other athletic situations.

We will be opening our facility in about a month, and are excited to offer some programs for kids and teens this summer. We will also offer a monthly membership for teens, but if you are new to CrossFit and want to try us out first, our summer programs are a great place to start.
Youth Climbing & CrossFit Summer Camp
A dual-fitness, double-fun experience for ages 7-12! Participants will work hard and play hard by enjoying rock climbing and CrossFit in the same camp session. CrossFit is based on constantly varied functional movements, and lends itself to the strength and flexibility involved in rock climbing. In addition to exercise and fitness, participants will enjoy games, teambuilding, routesetting and, of course, lots of climbing! Drop-off will be at Island Rock Gym, pick-up will be at Bainbridge Island CrossFit.
Teen Strength & Conditioning Summer Program
Bainbridge Island CrossFit's 6-week Teen Strength & Conditioning program is designed for kids ages 12-17 who want to improve their overall fitness regardless of athletic ability. Kids will be introduced to proper weightlifting techniques, plyometrics and gymnastics movements in a supportive, age appropriate setting that will allow the athlete to thrive. By scaling speed, volume, load, and intensity, we can make each class appropriate for an elite high-school athlete as well as any teen simply looking to stay active and fit. Teens will will hard, improve their general fitness and gain confidence!
